About Us About Us

About us

Te Ao Hou was established in April 2003 as a tribal-based Primary Health Organisation (PHO) deriving its origins, vision and values utilizing a tribal context as its foundation.  Te Ao Hou ceased it’s function as a PHO in September 2010 and became a Whānau Ora  Network Lead organisation.

Te Ao Hou are actively determined to represent our whānau, hapū and Iwi as we navigate our way forward into the future. The re-configuration of primary care in order to provide Better, Sooner More Convenient front line services has been central to the involvement of Te Ao Hou both regionally, with the Eastern Bay Regional PHO, and nationally, with the National Hauora Coalition (formerly the National Māori PHO Coalition).

In 2010 ‘He Pātaka Tāwharau’ was designed and developed by Te Ao Hou. He Pātaka Tāwharau is a proof of concept Whānau Ora model of service delivery to reorient and integrate existing services and funding streams to deliver BSMC. It is the basis of how we are implementing Whānau Ora over the next three years as the Whānau Ora Network Lead within our locality. He Pātaka Tāwharau reflects our passion and commitment towards the realisation of Whānau Ora for Ngai Tūhoe, Te Whakatōhea, Ngai Tai, Te Whānau-a-Apanui and the total Eastern Bay of Plenty community.

Te Ao Hou is also the lead organisation of the Te Ao Hou Whānau Ora  Network Collective of providers.  Te Ao Hou acknowledge that pathways moving forward require strong strategic alliances between providers to ensure a ‘whole of system, whole of sector’ approach to deliver whānau-centred services that achieve positive outcomes for whānau, hapū, Iwi and the community.
